Three Combo Program “A”
Offered in Woburn MA, Westwood MA, Worcester MA
This full-time, 20 hr. / week program Includes HVACR Commercial & Industrial Refrigeration Prep, Oil Heat Technicians License Prep, and Gas Heat.
1. HVACR Commercial & Industrial Refrigeration Prep
This course is designed to instruct students in the fundamentals of commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning. Students will obtain hands on experience with copper brazing, soldering and flaring projects. This course also covers electrical circuits as well as recovery, evacuation, and charging techniques. Students will become thoroughly familiar with refrigeration hand tools and testing equipment. Students will prepare and test for the EPA 608 Refrigerant Recovery Certificate. Upon successful completion of this course, the students will be granted 120 hours towards the required 450 hours to obtain their Massachusetts Refrigeration Technician License.
2. Oil Heat Technicians License Prep
This course will provide the students with the information necessary to sit for The Massachusetts Oil Burner Technician License. The curriculum includes combustion theory, oil burner construction, power venters, oil burner electrical circuits, hydronic controls, oil tank code and the Oil Burner Fire Protection Regulations (527 CMR 1.00) as well as the NFPA 31 Standard for the Installation of Oil Burning Equipment. The shop component will allow students to receive hands-on experience on live units. The curriculum will include basic tool use and safety, electrical safety, mechanical troubleshooting, annual tune ups, electrical testing and troubleshooting of oil burner controls and devices.
3. Gas Heat
This course is designed for the student who wishes to service both natural gas and L.P. heating equipment. This course will introduce various types of heating systems such as steam, forced warm air as well as hydronic heating systems. Students will become familiar with the burner components from the appliance shut off. A thorough foundation of wiring diagrams and control circuits will be covered. Hands-on troubleshooting of various gas burners, ignition systems, pressure and efficiency testing and heating components will be highlighted. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be granted 60 hours towards the required 450 hours to obtain their Massachusetts Refrigeration Technician License.
